Wardrobe Basics for the Neutral Look

While I LOVE a pop of color, I am completely in love with the neutral look that you see all blogs and Pinterest these days. I even created a Pinterest board filled with neutral outfit inspiration

when we are talking neutrals, here is a great little chart to help you determine what is a neutral

I wanted to share with you today some of my must have pieces that get a lot of play when building a neutral wardrobe. And I don’t want you to think of neutral as boring. Think of it as a great backdrop for great jewelry, a fun print (hello leopard!), and creating a classic look that makes getting dressed easy and packing a snap.

For me, these basics are building blocks that pull everything together

White jeans are a year round staple for me. They can be worn with everything from sandals to booties to tall boots and are a real workhorse. These are an amazing price with a great fit, not too tight and not too sheer. I also love that they come in petite.

A classic white blouse is about as sexy as it gets. Perfect for layering, instant style with a popped collar and you can get it in a flannel, classic oxford or silk material. I have one of each. I don’t think I have ever met a white blouse that wasn’t calling my name.

A longer tunic is always welcome. This white turtleneck sweater is super soft and can be dressed up or down, and also comes in some other great neutral colors.

A long open cardigan is one of the most popular looks right now. It can be layered over a silky cami, graphic t-shirt, blouse, or light weight sweater. This one comes in several colors and plus size.

Anyone else on a poncho kick? I love to wear them over my pilates clothes for running errands and with pants for a stylish look for church. So super versatile and this one has my heart.

Can you ever have enough boots? And yes, that is a rhetorical question 😉 This boot is the perfect color. Not too tan, not too gray, the perfect footwear for a classic neutral outfit.

I know not all of you need a winter hat, but I think of this hat as a great accessory even in fall-like weather and those chill spring thaw days. It can be the perfect finishing piece and who doesn’t love a “hat shower”? There are so many cute ones on the market today, but I love this one that also comes in several colors.

Layering can be tricky for those that get warm easily, or just randomly (I see you menopause). This vest is such a stylish option and isn’t too bulky so it is a great piece over anything form a t-shirt to a sweater depending on your activity. And that little flutter is just so sweet. It comes in both an oatmeal and a soft gray and the price is on point.

This is the sweater/tunic/t-shirt that I grab on almost an every day basis. Seriously I bought one in gray, and then I bought one in black and then I bought a second one in gray because I was worried I would wear it out. If you want to wear it slouchy and long enough for leggings order your regular size. If you are wanting a slimmer profile and to tuck it order one size down. It is perfect with a cami underneath, under a jacket, love it with a poncho….so versatile and so so soft.

Are you a neutral fan?

If the answer is yes, stay tuned for some of my favorite neutral upgrades and must haves!
